I am a native English speaker and grew up and went to school and college in the USA, but grew up speaking German as well at home, as my mother is Austrian. In the past I lived, worked, and studied in German-speaking countries for some 25 years. I gained my first translation experience in the 1990s while living in the German/Italian province of Italy, South Tyrol, where I worked for 6 years as a freelance German to English and Italian to English translator and English teacher. From 1996 to 1999 I completed a nursing training in Germany after which I worked clinically for 13 years in the USA, in the UK and in Switzerland. I returned to translation work in February of 2013, and have completed a number of assignments for clients on various freelance sites, for agencies, and for private individuals. I consider medical translation to be my specialty, but I have also completed the translation of several full-length books in the past two years: a children's book for a client in California, a novel for a client in Namibia, a longer academic work on a historical topic for a client in Berlin, and, in February 2015, the autobiography of a former ballet dancer in Switzerland. In August of 2015, I translated a book for a client in Vienna on spiritual inspiration and will soon be translating his web site for English-speaking audiences. Currently I am taking part in medical translation projects involving translating medical reports on returning service men for the VA as well as a project involving research into cardiogenic shock for an agency in Canada.
