I am an approved and professional language practitioner. I am a member of a national professional organization, SATI (South African Translators’ Institute). Last year, I was appointed for the term of 3 years to work in the Accreditation Committee of this organization. Amongst other things, my duty in this capacity is advance multilingualism in South Africa, and to give accreditation to members who are professionally qualified to hold such status. I am also a member of an international organization, International Translators’ Federaction (FIT).

I have been in the language profession for more than 17 years now. I started out in 1994 when I was given an in-house training and employed full time as an editor, translator and interpreter in Johannesburg. I worked about 3 years as such. And then I moved to Cape Town where I worked as a freelance editor, translator and interpreter.

I was employed by the Western Cape Education Department for the Khanya Project where I worked both as the e-Curriculum Facilitator and as the Language Practitioner for the Learning and Teaching Support Material team.

As you will see from my CV, you will notice that I did some work for various organizations, both public and private. For instance, at beginning of this year I was asked by the Hansard Division of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament to do some translations and editing work for them for 2011/12, and to coordinate the work of other freelance linguists.
