I am a native speaker of Chichewa and Tumbuka with a strong grip of the English language. Chichewa/Chewa/Cinyanja is distinctively the most documented vernacular in Africa. It has many speakers who are bilingual. Yet all too often translations into Chichewa, or Tumbuka, for that matter--including many that you see on billboards, are laughable. They have have apparently been done by so-called professionals but the fact is, there is really no professional training for Chichewa translation, per say-at least not the kind of training that addresses such essentials of a good translation as naturalness and accuracy. On the other hand, I have had extensive training as well as full-time experience in translation and interpretation, particularly in Chichewa.
This unique and specialised training which I received in relation to my line of work makes my services unique. It might interest you to note that I have worked as a full time translator for over 12 years translating various literature that make up part of a global publishing effort, resulting in translations of webpages, electronic books as well as audio and video material into languages as varied as Arabic, Navajo, Gun and Xhosa.
