The U.S. law under which your unit is being provided training or equipment requires that you also receive a program that promotes observance and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the law of war, civilian control of the military, and the rule of law. This briefing serves that purpose, and is the same briefing given to security forces in all countries that receive such assistance.
There are 2 parts to this briefing: Human Rights, and the Law of War.
During the first part, we will cover:
Basic international human rights law;
How international human rights law compares to the law of war;
The 13 human rights most important to security forces; and
UN Guidelines on the use of force during law enforcement.
