Sample text (50 to 200 words): The Neural Navigator is a tool for navigating structural MRI images with overlaid functional MRI maps, after they are registered to the physical space of a person’s head in a laboratory setup. It was originally developed at Utrecht University Medical Center/Utrecht University to aid in the application of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) pulses exactly over an indicated brain area. The Neural Navigator enables a researcher to spatially match a subject’s MRI data with the physical head shape and position in the lab, allowing to ‘look inside the subject’s head’. This manual describes how to operate The Neural Navigator. Technical details, the applied mathematical registration algorithms and an experimental validation of the precision of navigation in an fMRI-TMS study are published in an appropriate scientific journal:

The empirical validation demonstrated in multiple ways that the accuracy of targeting a brain area with the average accuracy of The Neural Navigator in targeting a brain area is 3mm ± 2.1mm (when using at least 6 craniotopic markers) when navigating with the hand-held probe, and 5mm ± 2.1mm when navigating with the TMS coil.
