I have used every job, every opportunity for travel and a lot of the free time I have had since I was 13 to use and improve my linguistic abilities. I only studied Arabic and Spanish to degree level and yet I volunteered to translate a friend's sci-fi novel from French to English because I knew it would be challenging, great fun and beneficial all at once. I took advantage of my knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese to read through and summarise a 100,000 word document explaining how to register software for use in the Brazilian market and I translated into Arabic a proposal for one of the largest contracts ever negotiated between a British company and the Saudi government, that translation being applauded by one of the most influential men in Saudi Arabia, to whom it was addressed.

I name all these examples not to be arrogant, but to showcase my skills and how I have used my circumstances to hone those skills. I am a naturally inquisitive person and being a linguist has only heightened that interest. What you will get with me is someone who enjoys a new challenge and delivers results fast. I have enjoyed my post-degree employment immensely, but I know that translation is my real calling and I would like to fulfil it through working for AETS.

What you will gather from this letter is that I have a raw talent for learning and using foreign languages and it is my sole desire to harness that to do work that I truly love and that improves me at the same time. There really is nothing more anyone can ask from a career in my opinion.
