I would say my linguistic interests became known as a 7-year-old Backstreet Boys fan. I didn't speak a word of English at that time, but I was thoroughly fascinated by their lyrics. By the time I started studying English at primary school, I had mastered the art of spelling English words by writing their lyrics down almost days on end. Oh, and of course I started translating the lyrics immediately after learning a few words. Today I'm proud to say that I have been able to make translating my full-time job and I absolutely love it. Even though my passion for translating goes way back, I have been doing this for a living around three years now. My specialities lie in subtitling and media, but I'm open for any areas of translating; I've taken part in many projects, including user manuals, legal texts, marketing, audio data collection, software localisations, and much more. Learning new things has always been important to me and this is a job where I can do exactly that by researching the subject. I think the most important thing in translating is to make sure the original point comes across without translating literally. I want to make sure my translations flow naturally and fit into the Finnish culture. Literal translations and clumsy texts drive me bonkers, so that's something you won't get when you hire me. What comes to audiovisual translating, subtitles and TV in general for me was the first real contact with English and today it's still one of the main language learning channels for kids, so it is very important to translate accordingly. It's also a great way for people to learn a broad vocabulary in both languages and that's something I always keep in mind while translating. I take pride in my professionalism and always make sure I deliver quality on time. If you have any questions or would like to see my full CV, don't hesitate to contact me.
